Healthy Livonia's 100 Days to Health

Healthy Livonia’s 100 Days to Health is a community-wide wellness program designed to support healthy habits for the whole family throughout the winter and spring. Participants can take part in a wide range of activities including fitness classes, nutrition and wellness seminars, FREE Fridays at the Rec, open swim, rock climbing, and special family and youth programs.

Fitness options include yoga, Zumba, strength and conditioning, aqua fitness, dance-based classes, and workouts for older adults, along with expert-led seminars focused on nutrition, motivation, and overall wellbeing. Interactive events for kids and families, such as egg hunts, pool parties, and Kids Night Out, are also part of the program.

The Weight Loss Fitness Challenge adds extra motivation, with monthly weigh-ins and exercise tracker submissions earning raffle entries. Prizes are awarded each month, and a grand prize three-month single membership to the Kirksey Recreation Center will be awarded based on percentage of weight lost.

All activities take place at the Kirksey Recreation Center, 15100 Hubbard Street, with programs running February through May. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to stay consistent, 100 Days to Health offers flexible ways to stay active, learn, and stay connected.

The kickoff event will be 9-11:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, with programming running until Friday, May 22. To find the program schedule, terms, and more, check out our program PDF with program descriptions and our calendar. You can register online today.

Due to the continued construction project, the 100-day program may experience interruptions with occasional canceled activities/classes, area/amenity shutdowns, etc. We are also anticipating a one-week shutdown of the entire center – with dates TBD at a later time. In the event of any disruption with 100 Day programming, no make up class, no day pass, no additional week will be added to the schedule and no additional center use (for non-members), will be provided.

The Spirit of Detroit sculpture in Detroit, Michigan

History Lecture Series: The Spirit of Detroit

What is the "Spirit of Detroit" and how do we see it in the structures, sculptures, and public spaces of the city?

Join art/architectural historian Deborah Lubera Kawsky 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Alexander Blue House in Greenmead Historical Park for a visual tour of Detroit's urbanistic and architectural history, from its beginnings as a frontier metropolis through its heyday in the midcentury period to its recent revival.

Discussion will focus on historic structures like the basilica of St. Anne, Michigan Central Station, the Guardian Building, Hudson's, and the Renaissance Center as exemplars both of the city's historic past and of its bright future.

No registration required for this free program, but you can find it on Facebook. It's sponsored by the Livonia Historical Commission.

Hands sewing with a needle and thread

Stitch Sessions: Beginner Hand Sewing and Crochet

Discover the joy of creating with your hands at Greenmead Historical Park with this welcoming series of handcrafting workshops for teens and adults. Each session focuses on a different technique, offering clear instruction, time to practice, and space to enjoy the process alongside others who love to make things.

The day begins with Beginner Hand Sewing on Feb. 7 from noon-2 p.m., where participants will learn foundational skills and three basic stitches while creating a simple scarf. Beginner Crochet follows on Feb. 7 from 2:30-4:30 p.m., introducing three stitches and guiding participants through a small, useful project like a potholder or dishrag. Beginner Crochet is sold out, but we have added an additional session March 7.

All materials are provided. Classes are open to ages 14 and older, and teens must be accompanied by an adult. Each workshop stands on its own, so participants may register for one or more sessions.

Register through our online portal.
