#RecreatingTheRec Oct. 31 Partial Closure

Due to electrical work, the Kirksey Recreation Center will be closed 5-11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31. The building will open at 11 a.m., and the Reinke Aquatic Center will open at 1 p.m. Morning classes will be canceled. Thank you for your patience as we continue to re-create the Rec!

Other important updates regarding changes to the Kirksey Recreation Center schedules and amenities include:

  • Early November: Seniors can tour the new Livonia Senior Wellness Center (LSWC) before its open house at select times Nov. 3-12. Registration is required by calling (734) 466-2555
  • Nov. 15: LSWC Community Open House takes place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Nov. 17: LSWC officially opens for regular use.

2025 Healthy Livonia Turkey Trot Fun Run and Walk

The Healthy Livonia Turkey Trot 2025 is approaching! This 5k fun run/walk will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, and runners will take off from Bicentennial Park.

This fun run is a non-certified course, and no bibs, chips, or awards will be given out. Registration is $20. On the day of the race, you can enter the Turkey Trot raffle to win prizes generously donated by local businesses and organizations. All proceeds from this event and raffle will go to the Livonia Goodfellows organization.

T-shirt pickup for the Turkey Trot will take place 1-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at The Rec as planned. If the center closure extends beyond 1 p.m., T-shirt pickup will still occur beginning at 1 p.m. Participants who secured a shirt may also pick it up on race day at Bicentennial Park starting at 8:30 a.m. You can still register online through our portal, or register onsite before the race. Just be sure to bring exact change or a check for in-person registration.

Dining with Yesterday: History on the Holiday table

Do you know why the tomato was declared a vegetable? Or which vegetable General Grant requested to be sent to the front-line troops? Come learn the stories behind your favorite fruits and vegetables from Carol Brodbeck. This program will include a one-hour presentation, lunch, and dessert. Advance registration is required for $35 per resident and $40 per non-resident.

Join our cheese class 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, and embark on a mouthwatering journey through the world of cheese!

Discover the origins, types, and flavors of various kinds of cheese while learning expert techniques for tasting and utilizing. Delight your senses with samples, expand your cheese knowledge, and become an aficionado in one evening! This class will offer different flavors from our Cheese 101 class. Advance registration is required for $25 per resident or $27 per non-resident.
