S'mores and stories

FARMING IN FALL 

Join us 7-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, around the campfire as we enjoy stories, crafts, games and, of course, s’mores! This month's theme is Farming In Fall. Advance registration is required for $5/child resident, $6/child non-resident. 

This program is best for ages 5-12. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

National Cheeseburger Day 

Lettuce celebrate National Cheeseburger Day (Sept. 18)! We will be making our very own cheeseburger squishie and create make-and-take crafts 10:30 a.m. -noon Saturday, Sept. 13, in the Alexander Blue House. Advance registration is required, $25/resident, $33/non-resident. This program is best for ages 4-10. Keep calm and burger on!

All children in attendance must be registered and accompanied by an adult.

Fall FLea Market 

Grab your wagon or cart and get ready to explore our Fall Flea Market  10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7! With more than 160 vendors, there are treasures to be found to suit everyone; from antiques to collectibles to vintage items. Admission is $3 for ages 13 and older (cash only). Free parking is available on site in the special events parking lot off Newburgh Road and the farm complex parking lots off Victor Parkway. 

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE:

  • Hydrate the day before, and drink plenty of water during your shopping time. 
  • Be prepared to pay with cash. 
  • There is no ATM on site.
  • Expect to walk at least one mile throughout the market. 
  • Dress for the weather. Don't forget your sunscreen and hat! 
  • Bring something to carry your treasures in. 
  • Vehicles are not permitted in the shopping area during the market. 
  • Leave your pets at home. Pets are not permitted in the market area.

THE POWER OF LOCAL FOOD: WHY IT MATTERS

Join Registered Dietitian and chef Mary Balog 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, for part 2 of this lecture and tasting series. Take a closer look at how eating local food helps to strengthen communities, and learn different ways to participate in our local food system. Pre-registration is requested for this free program at the Alexander Blue House to allow for adequate supplies for all attendees.

GROWING TOGETHER: MADONNA UNNIVERSITY AND LIVONIA

Established in 1937, Madonna University, sponsored by the Felician Sisters, and the city of Livonia have continued to respond to challenges and opportunities that shaped their growth and progress. Noting contributions of leaders of both the university and the city, Sr. Nancy Marie Jamroz will show that it takes a community to make a vision become a reality for the benefit of that community. Join us 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, for this is a free program at the Alexander Blue House. No registration required. 

BEE-DAY PARTY

What’s the buzz around bees? Join us noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Alexander Blue House as we learn about the fascinating world of honeybees from Greenmead’s very own beekeepers. This program will include a one-hour presentation, a GLUTEN-FREE lunch, and dessert. Advance registration is required for $40/resident, $45/non-resident.
