April 11 Early Closure at The Rec

Due to electrical work being done for the Senior Wellness Center, the Kirksey Recreation Center will close the facility 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 11. This closure will accommodate this work with the least interruption to our members and guests, We anticipate returning to our normal operation and schedule on Saturday at 7 a.m.!

Arab American National Museum

History Lecture Series: Overview of the Arab World and Arab Americans

What makes a country Arab? Come visit Greenmead 2-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, and learn about the differences between the Arab World and the Middle East, ethnic and religious diversity within the Arab World, the history of Arab immigration to the United States, Arab American demographics, and Arab American culture. This program is presented by the Arab American National Museum.

Ted's Talks 

These aren't TED Talks. They're Ted's Talks!

Ted's Talks are an open forum for questions posed to Ted Davis, the Superintendent of our department. Ted will answer questions and provide updates on capital projects, operations, and programs in Livonia Parks and Recreation. Ted's Talks are held 6 p.m. on the first or second Thursday of each month through August. The upcoming dates are as follows:

  • April 10
  • May 8
  • June 12
  • July 10
  • August 7

Earth Explorers: Nature's Neighborhoods

Do you ever wonder where the animals you see around you live? Join us 6-7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, as we discover how creatures big and small find food, stay safe, and build their homes through interactive, hands-on activities! Advance registration is required for $5/child. This event is at Greenmead Historical Park, and you can register online!

Livonia Junior Athletic League 

Spring is in full swing, and so is Livonia Junior Athletic League (LJAL)! Their Baseball/Softball Opening Day is Saturday, May 3 at Ford Field, featuring a Pitch, Hit, and Run competition in the morning, followed by the first games of the season in the afternoon. There are plenty of opportunities to support LJAL athletes, and you can find their quarterly eNewsletter online! Visit their website to find even more information on how to enroll and participate in their programs.
Livonia Senior Wellness Center being constructed

#RecreatingTheRec

As the exterior walls for both the new Livonia Senior Wellness Center and new West Gym stand tall, construction crews are working on some interior elements while fending off the cold weather. Interior renderings are available at LivoniaBuilt.org.

The Main Gyms will close in 2025 once the new West Gym is complete. The full project is expected to be completed in December 2025. You can visit LivoniaBuilt.org to see the specific timeline for each phase. For more details, check out our Frequently Asked Questions.
