Mayor Brosnan

COVID-19 Update from Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan

I wanted to provide you with an update on our City’s status in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cases in Livonia have increased dramatically in the last two weeks, and we are now averaging 60 new cases per day over the last seven days. This is far above the average for either Wayne or Oakland County. In fact, our rate of new cases is one of the highest in southeast Michigan.

So as Governor Whitmer announces a Pause to Save Lives, I hope you will take seriously the rapid spread of COVID-19 in our community. Abiding by public health rules will not only help keep you and your family safe but frontline workers across our community as well. Right now, 14 Livonia police officers and firefighters are currently quarantined, and another 20 City employees are isolating because of potential exposure to an infected individual.

These frontline workers are essential to our public safety and our City government. Please keep in mind that when an individual ignores public health guidance, they put these individuals and their families at risk.

Make no mistake: These last few months have been some of the most difficult in the City of Livonia’s history. But as promising vaccine developments loom on the horizon, now is not the time to let up or give up. It’s the time to mask up, Livonia, and work towards the common purpose of keeping our community safe.

What's Open in Livonia

In order to maintain a healthy workplace for our employees, we are continuing to make some changes to our City’s operations at this time. Last week, we directed our department leaders to facilitate remote work where possible. To ensure social distancing, residents will need to make an appointment to access services at City Hall. For more information, please review the “What’s Open in Livonia” update about the status of your favorite program or city service.

What's Open in Livonia is updated as needed to reflect the
fluidity of our operations during the pandemic. Please see our Situation Reports published every weekday for the most up to date information.

COVID-19 Pause to Save Lives

Pause to Save Lives

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has released a new order to go into effect on Wednesday to help the spread of COVID-19.

The order closes high schools for in-person learning, group fitness classes, restaurants and bars for indoor dining, organized sports and more. Employees are also encouraged to work from home if they can.

Hair salons, barbershops and other personal services remain open, as well as gyms and pools for individual exercise. Restaurants and bars can remain open for takeout, delivery and outdoor dining. All retail stores are open. Students in pre-school through 8th grade can also remain in person at the discretion of the school district.

For more information about the order, visit Michigan.gov/Coronavirus.

Social Gathering Guidance

Social Gathering Guidelines

Thanksgiving is next week and MDHHS has some tips to help reduce the risk to COVID-19 if you are socializing with family or friends.

After gathering, monitor yourself for symptoms of COVID-19. If anyone feels sick, get tested.

Safe Social "Pods"

Safe Social "Pods"

If you do choose to get together with others, do so safely by forming a social "pod."

This is a core group of friends or family who agree to limit their in-person social activities to only each other, and practice physical distancing with anyone outside the group.

Being part of a pod allows members to continue seeing people outside their household while reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19.
