Livonia City Hall, the Janet and Robert Bennett Civic Center Library, the Civic Park Senior Center, the 16th District Court and the Kirksey Recreation Center are closed today, Monday, Nov. 16, due to a power outage. Please do not visit these buildings until we have announced that power has been restored. The City of Livonia hosts an emergency shelter for residents who are without electricity or heat at the Kirksey Recreation Center.

The Jack Kirksey Livonia Community Recreation Center is prepared to provide a temporary place to stay for Livonia residents who confirm they live in the City.
The Recreation Center has cots, showers and other facilities that can provide short-term refuge for those who may need it. There are also WiFi access and televisions available, along with plugs for cell phone chargers.

Residents may use the facility as an emergency center during its operating hours. Current hours are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays; 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The Recreation Center is closed for fitness and activities but remains available to those who need emergency shelter or overnight accommodations. You must call at least two hours before arriving in order to arrange for staffing. Please call (734) 466-2298 and leave a message.

All recreation areas of the facility will be off-limits for emergency shelter users, including the pools, gymnasiums, climbing wall and fitness hub. Those who need shelter will also be asked to agree to a code of conduct while using the site.
