Election Day

Polls are open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are still in line at 8 p.m. when the polls close, you will still be able to vote.

Our polling locations will have hand sanitizer and cleaning protocols in place throughout the day. We encourage everyone to wear a mask. Wear gloves if it makes you more comfortable. Safety Captains at each precinct will wipe down booths, sanitize pens and have masks if you forget yours at home. A limited number of face shields will be available too. All precinct workers will be wearing masks and following safety protocols. We encourage you to maintain social distances of six feet.

Livonia City Hall is open for voter registration from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Ballot Spoiling

If you have received an absentee ballot, but now want to vote in person, you will need to surrender your absentee ballot first.  You can do this by coming to the City Clerk’s Office and surrendering your ballot or you can take it with you to your polling location on Election Day and surrender it.  Doing this at the polling location will result in a prolonged wait as the process involves many steps, including contacting the City Clerk’s office. It is strongly encouraged that, if you want to spoil your ballot, you do it at the Clerk’s Office prior to Election Day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Election FAQs

Where is my voting precinct?
To find your polling location, please to go the Secretary of State website.

Do I need my voter’s registration card to vote?
Whether you’re voting at the polls or by absentee ballot, all you need is your Driver’s License or State ID.  If you do not have either one, you can sign an affidavit stating you are not in possession of a photo ID.

Can I wear a t-shirt or hat promoting my candidate when I go to the polls?
For decades it has been illegal in Michigan to wear anything election-related to the polls. This includes clothing, hats, buttons, or even having things like flags, pamphlets, flyers or stickers.  You cannot even display such items within 100 feet of the entrance of a polling place.  You will be asked to remove these items before you are able to cast your vote.

I only want to vote for the President.  Do I have to fill out the entire ballot?
No, you do not need to complete the entire ballot. It will still be counted if you only vote for certain races (President, Senator, School Board, etc.)

Do I have to vote for the party that I’m registered under?
No. In the November election, you can vote for any candidate, regardless of your declared party affiliation.
