On May 3, 2004, then Deputy Chief Robert Stevenson was appointed Livonia's 8th Chief of Police by Mayor Engebretson. Livonia, with a population of just over 100,000 people, is Michigan's 8th largest city.
Chief Stevenson was born in Detroit and moved to Livonia early in his childhood. He attended Wilson Elementary School, Emerson Junior High School, and is a 1973 graduate of Franklin High School. Robert has been married for 22 years to his wife, Jill, and they have a son and a daughter. Nicholas is a member of the United States Marines and Kendall is a student.
Chief Stevenson joined the Livonia Police Department as a Cadet on August 19, 1974. After obtaining an Associates Degree from Schoolcraft College and attending the Police Academy he was promoted to Police Officer on June 6, 1978. As a Police Officer he performed traditional patrol duties, worked undercover narcotics in the Intelligence Bureau, and also spent two years assigned to the Michigan State Police Western Wayne Narcotics Unit. On May 7, 1990 he was promoted to Sergeant and worked as a supervisor in both the Patrol and Intelligence Bureaus.
Chief Stevenson continued to work his way up through the ranks and was promoted to Lieutenant on June 25, 1995. While Lieutenant, he commanded the Patrol Midnight shift before being transferred to the Administrative Division where he was in charge of training, recruiting, and hiring. In June 1997 he was promoted to Captain and was the Administrative Division Commander in charge of formulating and administrating the police department budget. In January 1999 he was re-assigned as the Commander of the Investigative Division.
On April 20, 2000 Chief Stevenson was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police under Chief Peter Kunst.

DEPUTY CHIEF CURTIS CAID

Deputy Chief Curtis Caid began his career in 1979 and is the second in command of the Police Department. Over his career, Deputy Chief Caid has been assigned to various positions within all three Divisions of the Police Department, including Officer in Charge of the Intelligence Bureau and Uniform Platoon Commander. As a Captain, Deputy Chief Caid has been a Division Commander of the Uniform and Support Services Divisions. His formal education includes a Bachelor of Science from Madonna University and he is a graduate of Northwestern University Staff and Command.

Captain Mark LaBerge is the Investigative Division Commander.
CAPTAIN ROBERT A. NENCIARINI

Captain Robert A. Nenciarini is the Uniform Division Commander. Captain Nenciarini is responsible for the Patrol Bureau, Community Services Bureau, Traffic Unit and Special Operations Unit. He was hired in 1980 as a Cadet and began his career walking a beat. Captain Nenciarini was promoted to Police Officer in 1982 and worked the road for the next 18 years, being promoted to Sergeant in 1991. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2000 and assigned to Patrol Operations, then to Support Services. He was promoted to Captain in April 2008. His formal education includes an Associate's degree from Henry Ford Community College, a Bachelor's degree from Madonna University and several courses toward a Master's degree from the University of Detroit, Mercy. He is also a graduate of the 211th class of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command. Captain Nenciarini stays active by running and has completed several marathons, including Boston and one 50 mile Trail Ultra.
